How to list your restaurant on Google Maps, step by step

To list your restaurant on Google Maps, you add or claim a free Google Business Profile, verify it, and fill it in. Most guests decide where to eat from that profile, so the details matter. Below: the steps, what to fill in first, and how to put an order button on it that sends orders to you, not to an app.

First, check if you are already on Google

Many restaurants are already on Google Maps without knowing it, because guests or Google added them. Open Google Maps and search your restaurant's name and area, for example "Swaad Kitchen Sector 45 Gurugram".

  • You find it, unclaimedClaim it. Open the listing, choose the option to claim it, then "Manage now".
  • You find it, and someone else manages itDon't make a second listing. Request ownership from the current owner through Google instead.
  • You don't find itAdd it as a new business at business.google.com/add.

Adding or claiming a Business Profile is free. Anyone who asks you for money to "register you on Google" is selling a service, not a requirement.

Add your restaurant in five steps

  • 1. NameThe name on your signboard, nothing more. Don't add words like "best biryani" to it.
  • 2. CategoryPick "Restaurant" or the closest specific type, such as South Indian restaurant, cafe or bakery. You can add more categories later.
  • 3. LocationYour exact address with the pin dropped on your door, not the market's main gate.
  • 4. Phone and websiteA number someone answers during service hours. For the website, your own ordering link works if you don't have a site.
  • 5. VerifyChoose one of the verification options Google shows you and finish it. The options differ by business, so follow what appears on your screen.

Your profile goes fully live once Google accepts the verification.

What to fill in first

A half-empty profile loses guests to the restaurant next door that has photos and a menu. Fill these in the first week:

  • Hours, including different hours on weekends and festival days. Wrong hours are the fastest way to get an angry review.
  • Photos: the front of the restaurant so people can find it, the inside, and your five best-selling dishes in daylight.
  • Menu: a link to your menu, with prices. A digital QR menu link works here too, and you update it in one place.
  • Dine-in, takeaway and delivery options, so you show up for the right searches.
  • A short description: what you serve and what you're known for, in plain words.

Put your own order button on the profile

Google lets a restaurant add food ordering links to its profile. Go to your Business Profile at business.google.com, choose Food ordering, then Add a link at the bottom of the list. The link then shows on your profile in Search and Maps. If you also list delivery apps, select a link and choose Set as preferred, then switch on Preferred for pickup and Preferred for delivery separately.

This matters for your margin. A guest who taps a delivery app's link pays you through that app, and Swiggy and Zomato commissions are reported at about 16–30%, with 18% GST on the commission on top. Our commission calculator shows what that means per order.

With POSBADA online ordering, your restaurant gets its own shop page with your name, menu and an order button, for delivery and pickup with UPI and card payments at 0% commission and no platform fee. Paste that link as your Google ordering link and in your Instagram bio.

Reviews and keeping the profile alive

  • Ask happy regulars for a review in person, or with a QR card at the counter. Don't buy reviews or trade discounts for them; one honest review from a regular is worth more.
  • Reply to every review, short and polite, especially the bad ones. Future guests read the replies.
  • Add new photos every month and update hours before every festival.
  • Keep the name, address and phone the same everywhere: the profile, your bills, your menu card and your ordering page.

Your bill is the easiest place to repeat them. A correct GST bill already carries your name, address and phone.

Is it free to list a restaurant on Google Maps?

Yes. Adding or claiming a Google Business Profile is free. You only pay if you choose to hire someone to set it up for you or run ads.

My restaurant is already on Google Maps but I didn't add it. What do I do?

Claim it. Search for it in Google Maps, open the listing, choose the option to claim it and then Manage now, and complete verification. If someone else already manages it, request ownership instead of creating a second listing.

How do I add an Order online button to my Google profile?

Open your Business Profile at business.google.com, choose Food ordering, select Add a link at the bottom of the list, paste your ordering link and save. Use your own ordering link so the order does not pay a delivery app commission.

Should I also add Swiggy and Zomato links to my Google profile?

You can. Google lets you add several food ordering links, and for each one you can switch on Preferred for pickup and Preferred for delivery separately. If you want guests to order without a delivery app commission, make your own ordering link the preferred one.

Give Google an order button that's yours.

POSBADA gives your restaurant its own online shop for delivery and pickup with UPI and card payments at 0% commission, no platform fee. First month free.
